Aptus Technology
Reigate, Surrey – 6 September 2002
At Aptus, we are committed to minimising the impact that our operations have on the environment around us and that we move progressively towards a more sustainable future. At the beginning of the month, we took a major step forward with the introduction of our first electric vehicle, a Volkswagen ID3, replacing a five-year old Toyota Camry.
Whilst the emissions created during the production of an electric car tend to be higher than a conventional car (typically, more than a third of the lifetime CO2 emissions from an electric car come from the energy used to make the car itself), research by the European Energy Agency found that, even allowing for this, the carbon emissions of an electric car are around 17 – 30% lower than driving a petrol or diesel car. And, as technology advances, this figure is constantly improving.
Chris West, Founder and Managing Director of Aptus Technology commented: “When considering a replacement vehicle, we researched the viability of an electric car. We found no downsides. All but one of our clients lies within a one hundred mile radius of our operations base, so ‘range anxiety’ is not an issue. We also learned from one very helpful website that, with the same amount of usage, the VW should reduce emissions of CO2 by approximately 1,500 kilograms over the course of a year. This is just one vehicle at one company, but, even so, that is a significant figure and we encourage other companies to follow our example.”
